The Light Will Win Out

The Darkness is Growing

As believers in Christ, we have dual citizenship: one is in Heaven, the other is on Earth.

Our heavenly citizenship is taking on ever-increasing significance as we see the accelerating depravity of our earthly citizenship. Satanic darkness is rushing in on us like a giant tsunami. The darkness is coming from government, business, education, religion, and entertainment. They are drowning our nation in sin. Those among God's children who are desperately attempting to slow the darkness with sand bags of spiritual light are to be commended. But we are too few, and the darkness is too great.

I have spent much time studying, preaching, and writing on the Book of Revelation, and what a priceless document it is. In it God repeatedly forewarns believers that as we approach the end of the age, the darkness will get darker. Added to that, godless men and women will seek to snuff out whatever light is left. While we should be greatly saddened at what is happening to our beloved country and our world, we should not be surprised by the growing darkness, nor should we surrender to it.

The Light Will Win Out

Like twinkling stars, we cannot totally dispel the growing darkness, but our King – like the sun in all its brightness and glory – certainly can and absolutely will. The apostle John writing of Jesus said: In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not (John 1:4-5). The idea is: The darkness could not defeat, put out, or overcome the light. In the end, the light will dispel the darkness. And Christ, Himself, is that light.

In the last chapter of the Bible, the aged apostle John wrote of the believer's eternal home: And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever (Revelation 22:5).

As believers who truly understand what is going on in our country, we must not become depressed. We cannot afford that luxury. We must stay on the offensive. Our Lord's last command must remain our first concern. We are commanded to go into the world and make disciples, identifying them with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).

That command has never been rescinded. God the Father planned our salvation before time began, God the Son purchased our salvation with His own blood, and God the Holy Spirit processed our salvation and baptized us into the family of God.

As believers, let us make a determined commitment that, by God's grace, we will not allow the darkness to deter us from pointing men and women to the One who is the Light of the world.

Jesus is the way. Jesus is the truth. Jesus is the life. In each instance there is a definite article. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. There is no alternate way; there is no alternate truth; and there is no alternate life. He is not one way to God among many ways. He is the only way!
